11 Sep General Minimum Wage is increasing this year in Ontario
For those hourly wage employees, they will be getting a raise as of October 1, 2025 in Ontario. The minimum wage, which is currently $17.20 per hour, will be increased to $17.60 per hour, a 40 cent per hour increase, based on a rise of 2.3% in the Consumer Price Index. Students under the age of 18 will earn $16.60 per hour as of the first of October. Despite these nominal wage increases the Ontario “living wage network” estimates the average current living wage is much higher at $21.66 per hour.
Any time there is a wage increase for workers in Ontario, there is an opportunity to update employment agreements to ensure they are kept up to date. The wage increase can act as the “consideration” necessary to make a contract binding in the courts.
